STRANDBAR HERRMANN in Vienna is a wonder-bar on an artificial beach on the banks of the Danube. And it’s a cool place to enjoy a glass of Grüner Vetliner, Austria’s very own varietal. White and dry, GrüVe wines have a light, perfumed nose and a racy, piquant everything else. They are light, peppery, citrusy and very food-friendly.
We at evintner owe a special debt of gratitude to Emanuel Herrmann, the man from whom Strandbar Hermann got its name. In 1869, Professor Herrmann wrote an article in the Neuen Freien Presse, suggesting a new mode of postal communication: an simple card with an open message and printed stamp at half the price of a regular letter, aka the postcard.
